THE MAKING OF THE COMMISSIONED SAN MARCOS 60'MURAL
COMMENTS
FROM MY STUDENTS REGARDING THE COLORS OF TEXAS MURAL
Susan Harmon
The "Colors of
Texas" mural looks like it must of have always been there and
the colors are so beautiful. When I looked at the pictures and
studied the mural, I wondered if it actually spelled something behind the
abstract design. After searching online, I found Prof. Harmon's
website and found what must be the words worked into the artwork. We go
to San Marcos on occasion, so we'll be on the look out next time where there.
The "Colors of
Texas" mural I think is a very beautiful piece of art. Specially
after the flooding, I think it gave the surrounding community a feeling of
hope, the colors are so vibrant and beautiful. After such disaster I would see
this piece as a reminder that Texas is beautiful that they will get through it,
to see positivity in the colors and abstracts.
"The Colors of
Texas" is so beautiful and creative. I really like all the different
colors incorporated in the mural and the placement. I think the colors really
pop by the railroad tracks. I also think it was very encouraging to put such a
bright piece in the city after all the flooding. I used to live in New
Braunfels, so I traveled to San Marcos frequently. It was all ready such a
pretty and scenic area, and I think the "The Colors of Texas" just
added to the beauty of the city.
I watched it, and thought that your colorful, abstract work of art was just what that dull green wall needed to brighten up the area and truly showcase the amazing art that Texas has to offer. (student of mine)
